I need to become a strong athlete who will be able to carry the burden of being the Olympic Champion. I want to donate the prize money that I won here to those who have been affected by the disaster, as well as for building more skating rinks".

That's not a bad thing to do. He can still use the title "Sochi Olympics Gold Medalist" for the rest of his life afterall

This guy was born and raised in Sendai, and the rink that he used was destroyed in the Great Eastern Japan disaster.
He was actually one of the victims who had to live in a shelter for a while.
