Child actress Mana Ashida (9) will be playing the lead role in the drama Ashita, mama ga inai (Mama won't be here tomorrow; Wednesdays-10 pm on NTV) beginning in January next year.
The story will be a touching drama about the children living in an orphanage after their parents left them for various reasons. Ashida will be starring alongside Rio Suzuki (8) who actually became an actress since she idolized Ashida.
Ashida will be playing the role of the "leader" among the orphans called "post" and comments: "This is a role that I haven't done yet, so I'm feeling nervous if I'll be able to portray it well, and I'm also looking forward to the challenge".
Suzuki who played the daughter in Hikari Mitsushima's Woman comments: "I'll be together with my idol Mana-chan, it's like a dream, I'm really excited. I'm truly happy". "We hope to make a series that will last in everyone's hearts".
The producer Yuta Fukui comments: "The lead in this drama are the children. We will be taking this ubiquitous theme of "love between parents and children", but will be focusing on it from the perspective of the children. I want people to be able to say that this drama is the biggest tear-jerker in the 21st century once it's finished".
